Learn about the most important natural and available source for chemicals as Dr. Peter Childs expounds on the life of Edward C. C. Stanford, a pioneer chemical entrepreneur, and David Hiltz discusses the current state of the seaweed industry through his work with Acadian Plant Health.

Biographies:

  • Dr. Peter Childs retired from the University of Limerick in 2009 after teaching chemistry since 1970. He has been interested in the history of the seaweed industry since 1998.
  • David Hiltz is the Director of Global Regulatory Affairs at Acadian Plant Health, an algal biotechnology company headquartered in Nova Scotia, CAN.
  • Dr. Gary D. Patterson is Professor of Chemistry Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.  During his academic career, he published more than 100 articles in the chemical physics of amorphous systems, especially polymers, and is the author of Physical Chemistry of Macromolecules (2007).
